Villages in Turkey

The village transport.

Chickens roam the streets.

The village shop provides a welcome splash of colour.

We visited several villages and we all noticed how quiet they were. We rarely saw anyone under the age of 50. Whenever we stopped in a village our guide (that's Lale, on the right of the photo) would invite the locals to join us for coffee, or tea. It was always men who showed up. They told us (through the interpreters) that in the last couple of decades, changes in the Turkish economy has meant that there is  no future for young people in the rural areas; so as soon as they are old enough, youngsters leave for the cities. But at weekends and holidays, many of them return and then the village comes alive again.

What a Real Estate salesman would call a 'Handy Man's Special'!

The  old lady in this photo keeps goats in this enclosure. Later on she came back with a huge load of food for them.
