Verona 2013

It's funny how things change, isn't it? When I was a teenager, the Beatles were my idols. Now it's Placido Domingo. So last year when we were in Verona, and the Arena announced a Gala event scheduled for this year (2013) with Placido Domingo appearing, we immediately bought tickets.

I think I am so lucky to have heard his magnificent voice, live. And it may be one of his last performances; he was ill in July and has been told to retire.

But will he? To perform may hasten his death- but I suspect that for someone like him, to give up singing will be a different sort of death, and possibly just as fatal.

It was a great experience to see such a master perform- even if it was mostly Wagner!

Going home, after the opera.

Hi Maggie - I am a huge Placido fan too and was lucky to hear him sing in Chicago about 20 years ago. I'm sorry to hear he may retire from singing. Love reading about Verona and hope to visit one day. Grier

Hi Maggie - Don't believe gossip, but watch the performance-list on his website. http://verdi.placidodomingo.com/desktop/domingo-desktop.html

Thank you so much for that link! It's fabulous and for sure I'll be buying that album. Grier, I hope you come back and see it too.
We have more tickets to see him tomorrow night, in Operalia. Got to take the opportunity while it's there. Maggie
